Healing Through HIP HOP
Meet Yaniya.
Just 18 years old, but wise with the weight of her story. Her father was killed by gun violence. Today, she’s not just surviving—she’s leading. As a youth mentor with HHN2L, she co-facilitates healing sessions, offering younger students something she never had at their age: a safe space.
When Yaniya plays her original song, “My Disguise,” students don’t just hear music—they hear survival. They hear hope. They hear someone who made it through and is lighting the way forward.
We listen to what students are really saying through their lyrics. Then, we pair that expression with mentorship and coping tools to help them navigate real-life challenges. When a student like Yaniya shares her truth—through lyrics crafted from pain and purpose—healing begins in the room. This is what makes HHN2L different. We heal the artist and the audience. We turn healing into testimony.
How We Support Mental Health.
At HHN2L, we know that before students can learn, they need to feel safe, seen, and supported. That’s why mental health is not a side note in our work—it’s central to everything we do.
For many of our students, music becomes therapy. Whether they’re writing about joy, grief, bullying, identity, or survival, hip hop gives them the language to process their emotions and the rhythm to release them.
Through songwriting, beat-making, performance, and public presenting, our students gain powerful tools to express themselves, reclaim their identities, and channel emotion—all within safe, creative, and affirming spaces.
Our programs embed licensed therapists and trauma-informed facilitators into workshops, camps, and showcases—ensuring that emotional support is available in the moment.
