The Real Young Prodigys Program (TRYP)
The Real Young Prodigys (TRYP) Program is the flagship program of HHN2L — and it all began with a third grader named DaVonn Pitney.
DaVonn wasn’t just a talented young rapper — she was a visionary. At 8 years old, she turned to her teacher (and cousin) Nee-Nee — also known as NyRee Clayton-Taylor — and said:
“We have something to say.”
She believed music was the perfect vehicle for young people to express themselves, create change, and feel seen. That single conversation sparked what is now one of the most impactful youth music programs in the country: TRYP — The Real Young Prodigys.
TRYP is a free, year-round program where youth write, record, and perform original music rooted in healing, belonging, and joy. Through songwriting, public speaking, and public speaking training, students find their voice — and use it to speak up for themselves and their communities.
